DMK raises Rs. 106 crore election fund

The DMK has collected a whopping Rs 106.79 crore as election fund. Honouring district secretaries at the party’s 10th state conference in Tiruchy, party president M. Karunanidhi gave gold rings to secretaries of three districts that had contributed maximum amount to the election fund. Others received certificates. In 1966-67 in the 4 Virugambakkam in Chennai, Mr. Karunanidhi presented Rs. 11 lakh to party founder C.N. Annadurai and received a gold ring.



At the Tiruchi conference, Tiruvannamalai district secretary E.V. Velu, who contributed Rs 7.22 crore, topped the list. Thiruvallur district secretary Sudarsanam secured the second place for contributing Rs 7.11 crore. Kancheepuram district secretary T.M. Anbarasan got the third place with his contribution of Rs 6.07 crore. It was party treasurer M.K. Stalin who announced the name of the district secretaries and the amounts contributed by them.
But Mr. Karunanidhi asked him to calculate the total amount and made it open to the party cadres present at the conference venue. The conference in the evening session witnessed party leaders speaking on various subjects.

Party general secretary K. Anbazhagan said the DMK alliance should win all the 40 seats in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the Lok Sabha polls, not to secure political power, but to empower the Dravidian society.
