In a bid to keep adequate
parcels of land readily available with SIPCOT so that they could be allotted to
investors quickly, the Tamil Nadu state government is taking efforts to create
a land bank of about 12,000 acres. Replying to the debate on demand for grants
for his department, Industries Minister Mr. P. Thangamani said the land bank
would not draw from cultivable land. He said that, government is acquiring
mostly dry and barren land. The proposals seeking the administrative sanction
of the government for land acquisition are in various stages. Land is being
identified in districts like Vellore ,
Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tuticorin and Perambalur.
The government is keen on
acquiring land for establishing eight more new industrial complexes such as
Oragadam Industrial Growth Centre Expansion II, Cheyyar Industrial Complex, and
industrial parks in Madurai ,
Tuticorin, Tindivanam, Manapparai, Nemili and Panapakkam.
At least, 11,000 acres will
also be acquired in the coming years, as the state run SIPCOT is taking efforts
to establish new industrial parks in nine southern districts to bring in
investments of Rs.25,000 crore.
