After introducing various
welfare measures under the Amma brand name, the Tamil Nadu government announced
its decision to sell ‘Amma seeds’. The seeds will be available in the
proposed Amma service centres across the state. In a bid to encourage farmers
to use high quality seeds, the government will set up Amma Seed Agency by
coordinating with government seed farms, seed production units and farmers, chief
minister J Jayalalithaa said in the assembly.
She said that, the agency
will be set up with adequate staff at a cost of Rs.156.74 crore. Quality seeds
produced here will be supplied as Amma seeds through Amma outlets at a
reasonable price. This is part of the government's efforts to intensify grain
production in this fiscal year.
