Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Chief
Jayalalithaa announced five candidates for the Rajya Sabha seats from Tamil
Nadu. Her decision seems to have closed the door for the State unit of the CPI
which was hoping to get some seats. Elections are due for six Rajya Sabha seats.
With an Assembly strength of 151, the AIADMK is assured of 4 seats (A candidate
needs 34 votes to enter the Upper House). The CPI and CPI (M) together have 18
seats. Ms. Jayalalithaa has re-nominated V. Maitrayen who is the deputy leader
of the AIADMK’s parliamentary party.
The names announced by Jayalalithaa are:
Ø V. Maitrayen (deputy leader of the AIADMK’s
parliamentary party)
Ø K. R. Arjunan (Nilgiris district secretary)
Ø T. Ratinavel (Tiruchi urban district unit secretary)
Ø Dr R. Lakshmanan (Villupuram North district unit
secretary) and
Ø K. Thangamuthu (Secretary of AIADMK’s farmers’wing)
Now where the CPI and CPI (M) goes is a big Q?. The position of DMK and DMDK too not clear...I think, it will be of DMK + CPI + CPI (M) so that this alliance will be seen in Lok Sabha election too...
