The Bharatiya Janata Party
distanced itself from Union Minister Maneka Gandhi's letter to convicted AIADMK
Chief J Jayalalithaa after her release from Bangalore jail. The party said the letter
from Maneka Gandhi is personal and should not be viewed as BJP's policy.
BJP Secreatary Muralidhar Rao
said that, a person in Cabinet writing a letter should not be seen as policy of
party. Whatever will happen will happen through legal proceedings. She may be
having faith that Jayalalithaa is innocent, she may have expressed her personal
faith. The BJP always said that in this case we have to respect judgement. If
it is a party stand I would have decalred, our all India spokesperson would have
declared.
In her letter, Maneka Gandhi
had said that she was sorry that Jayalalithaa was imprisoned and extended her
support.
Jayalalithaa, who returned to
Chennai over the weekend, also got a welcome-back letter from superstar
Rajinikanth. Interestingly, BJP is trying to get Rajinikanth into BJP. Political
Observers in the State think this is the message for BJP that he is not interested
in politics.
Jayalalithaa thanked both of
them for their letters. The Supreme Court on October 17 granted bail to
Jayalalithaa in 18-year-old disproportionate assets case and also suspended her
sentence.
