Launched on: October 02, 2014
Launched by: Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi
Launched at: New Delhi
"Bharat Mata ki Jai, Long Live Mahatma Gandhi, Long Live Lal Bahadur Shastri". On 2nd October, birth anniversaries of our Pujya Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shashtri ji, Prime Minister launched this scheme. Mr. Modi said that, Lal Bahadur Shastri gave the Mantra of “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan”. Indian Farmers filled the granaries in reply to that exhortation. Pujya Bapu (Mahatma Gandhi) gave the message of “Quit India- Clean India”.
Bhai Anant of Maharashtra and sister Bhagyashri won the contest that was called for a logo and an idea for this scheme. Modi complimented the creator of this logo- Shri Anant. One tag line has been given by Bhagyashri- ‘one step towards cleanliness’. Not a big deal, just a step.
Mr. Modi asked that, if Indians can reach Mars with minimum expense then can’t they clean their neighborhood? Cleanliness will also be achieved together. He said that, all common people who work for cleanliness should be highlighted. All must create an inspiring environment. Finger pointing will not help. This is a work solely inspired by patriotism.
Modi also invited 9 people to come to public place and work for cleanliness. He said that, they should also invite 9 other people. Then 9 more. Those 9 persons are:
(i)                Goa Governor Hon’ble Mridula Sinha
(ii)             Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar
(iii)           Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev
(iv)           Congress leader Shri Shashi Tharoor
(v)             Actor Kamal Haasan
(vi)           Actor Salman Khan
(vii)        Actor Priyanka Chopra and
(viii)      Industrialist Anil Ambani
(ix)           Entire team of Tarak Mehta ka Ulta Chashma
Modi said that, Serving Mother India is serving the poorest. He said that, even now, there are many schools which don’t have separate toilets for girls. It should be changed.
