On the eve of a crucial meeting of the Joint
Parliamentary Committee on the 2G scam, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha dashed
off yet another letter to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, arguing that his
failure to appear before the panel would “confirm” his complicity in the scam.
In his letter, Mr. Sinha referred to the former
Telecom Minister, A. Raja’s communication to JPC Chairman P.C. Chacko, stating
that he took major decisions only after consulting the Prime Minister, and said
Dr. Singh’s silence amounted to admission of guilt.
The letter suggested that April 25, 2013 JPC
meeting, at which the members would have to take a call on the controversial
draft report, would be a tumultuous affair. “Under the leadership of your party
member P.C. Chacko, the JPC is facing the risk of a complete stalemate, if not
total destruction.”
Mr. Sinha reminded Dr. Singh that he had written on
April 2 saying he had nothing to hide, and maintained that his “deafening
silence” on the allegations “made by your own colleague in the Cabinet
completely disapproves the stand” he had taken. “Your silence will confirm
the worst fear of the people of India
that you were fully involved in the 2G scam, and if Raja is guilty, so are you.”
Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned earlier
without any business after the Opposition stalled the proceedings, demanding an
explanation from Law Minister Ashwani Kumar.
