Indian Badminton League 2013

In the line of IPL (Indian Premier League), now it is IBL (Indian Badminton League). Mumbai Masters bagged World No.1 Lee Chong Wei for a whopping $135,000 against a base price of $50,000 and thereafter strategically built a strong team in the players’ auction of the Indian Badminton League.

With each of the six franchisees entitled to one icon player, Saina Nehwal fetched $120,000 and went the way of Hyderabad Hotshots. Hotshots also managed to add the retired former Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat, Ajay Jayaram and the mixed doubles duo of Tarun Kona and Pradyna Gadre. In fact, Pradyna went for a whopping $46,000 after starting with a base price of $10,000!

About IBL:- Indian Badminton League is a proposed franchise league proposed by Badminton Association of India (BAI). The inaugural edition of the Indian Badminton League will take place in India from 14 August to 31 August 2013. This will have Indian as well as foreign players. The league will have 6 franchises. The matches will be played in two legs home and away. The BAI has also made it mandatory for top badminton players to participate in this league.
Actor Aamir Khan and actress Deepika Padukone are going to be brand ambassadors of this league. There are also plans of bringing Sunil Gavaskar as a badminton aficionado. International stars will make beeline for this league. This league is schedule from 14 August 2013 - 31 August 2013. Opening Ceremony will be at Delhi on 13 August 2013 and Final at Mumbai on 31 August 2013. Semi finals will be held at Hyderabad and Bangalore.
