From Chennai to IIM – A
Rs 200 crore project “Enthiran” turned into a blitzkrieg and changed the face of the film Indian film industry, as far as sci-fi film making is concerned. The costliest Indian film ever made reaped over Rs 300 crore within a fortnight of its release. It was simultaneously released in the highest number of theatres, a whooping 3000 screens. In Chennai, the film opened to 200 shows a day.
Casting legends in the film industry – from Rajinikanth to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and A R Rahman was meant to display the might of both the actors and producers. It helped make the film Indian cinema’s highest grosser. The release of nearly a dozen Tamil films was put off or advanced so as not to compete with the magnum opus.
Rajini never likes promoting his films, perhaps one reason why he continues to be an enigma to fans. Enthiran changed that for good as he did not miss any opportunity – from the small screen to radio stations – to offer promotional interviews ahead of the release. To be clearly saying, Enthiran charted a new path. The film scripted success not only in Tamil, where the superstar reigns supreme, but in Bollywood as well. It beat Aamir Khan’s “3 Idiots” hands down in the money it grossed.
Apart from raising the bar for Tamil films in terms of technical brilliance, Enthiran has just crossed another milestone: it was included as a case study for film success in the curriculum of the best B-school in India

There are 17,368 farm suicides in 2009. When compared to 2008, it was a rise of 1172. It was also the worst suicide figures in six years. The share of the “suicide belt” (Maharashtra , Karnatka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) accounted for 62% (10,765 farmers) suicide in 2009.
In general, over a quarter of a million Indian farmers have committed suicide since 1995. These numbers are gross under estimates to begin with. Several large group of farmers are mostly excluded from local counts. Women, for instance. Social and other prejudice means that, most times a woman farmer killing herself is counted as suicide – not as farmer’s suicide. Because the land is rarely in a woman’s name.
Tamil Nadu showed the biggest increase of all states, going from 512 in 2008 to 1060 in 2009 (an increase of 548) followed by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

And what charge would the law enforcing agencies slap against those who allowed the prices of food articles and vegetables to go sky high to snatch the last penny from the pockets of the common men?
- If Binayak Sen had robed India of Rs 17600000000000 in a telecom scam, he’d be free today….
- Anderson of Carbide gets a plane; A Raja gets a Cabinet berth; Kalmadi gets CWG; but Binayak Sen gets life for an unsigned letter!.. Amazing laws in
- It is a verdict against humanity. People like Dr. Sen should be honoured and not jailed. The world has seen eminent men persecuted since the time of Socrates. It is shameful that the practice continues in the 21st century.
- All Dr. Sen did was to oppose the actions of “Salwa Judum” a civilian armed group raised by the government to fight Maoists, when it violated the human rights of tribals.
GSLV – F06 FAILURE: IS SETBACK FOR ISRO?
The launch of the Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F06) on Dec 25, 2010 was failed. It is ISRO’s second GSLV failure in 2010. Out of seven GSLV flights from 2001, 4 including the latest one have failed. But it cannot be a setback for ISRO. The technical faults in launch of satellites are a regular one for every space programs.

The GSLV-F06 flight was scheduled to take off originally in December 21, 2010 but it was postponed later due to leak of helium gas from one of the valves in the Russian cryogenic stage. While it costs, Rs. 175 crore to build the GSLV-F06, for the GSAT-5P it cost Rs. 150 crore.
What is GSLV?
The GSLV is a three-stage vehicle, with the first core stage powered by the solid propellants, four strap-on motors around the core stage, which are fuelled by liquid propellants, the second stage propelled by liquid propellants and the third topmost stage uses cryogenic propellants.
The failure of this could hit the following:
- The Rs 425 crore second Indian moon mission, Chandrayaan-2, which is expected to be flown by the GSLV in 2013.
- The Rs 13000 crore human space flight mission, for which the government is yet to give green signal.

The failure need not dishearten the scientist community. Scientists learn from their mistakes, politicians neither learn from nor admit their mistakes.
