Biggest star ever found in neighbouring galaxy

Biggest star ever found in neighbouring galaxy

Astronomers say they have discovered the most colossal star on record, in a region of space known as the Tarantula nebula in a neighbouring galaxy to our own. The record-breaking star weighs 265 times as much as the sun and is millions of times brighter. The discovery has astonished scientists who thought it was impossible for stars to exceed more than 150 times the mass of the sun.
When the star was born it could have been more than twice as heavy. Because it is so far away - about 165,000 light-years - it can only be seen with the use of powerful telescopes in the southern hemisphere. If the star, known as R136a1, took the place of the sun in our solar system, its gravitational attraction would pull our planet in so close that the length of an “Earth year” would shrink to three weeks. “It would bathe the Earth with incredibly intense ultraviolet radiation, rendering life on our planet impossible,” said Raphael Hirschi, a researcher at Keele University in Staffordshire, England.
A team led by Paul Crowther, an astrophysicist at Sheffield University, also in the U.K., used the Very Large Telescope (VLT) in the Atacama desert of northern Chile and archival material from the Hubble space telescope to study two young clusters of stars called NGC 3603 and RMC 136a.
The first group of stars, NGC 3603, lies about 22,000 light-years away, while stars in the RMC136a cluster are in a neighbouring galaxy called the Large Magellanic Cloud.
The astronomers found a clutch of monster stars, including several that are tens of times larger than the sun and several millions of times brighter. Some have surface temperatures of more than 40,000C - seven times hotter than our own sun.
These enormous stars churn out vast quantities of material, and, close up, would look fuzzy compared to the sun. “Unlike humans, these stars are born heavy and lose weight as they age,” said Dr. Crowther. “Being a little over a million years old, the most extreme star, R136a1, is already ‘middle-aged’ and has undergone an intense weight-loss programme, shedding a fifth of its initial mass over that time, or more than 50 solar masses.”
Such heavyweight stars are extremely rare, forming only within the densest star clusters. Distinguishing the individual stars was made possible by the use of infra-red instruments on the telescope.
“Owing to the rarity of these monsters I think it is unlikely that this new record will be broken any time soon,” said Dr. Crowther.

Rupee - in Elite Club

When INDIAN RUPEE symbol was finalised by the Cabinet, this was the cartoon published in THE HINDU newspaper...

Uday Kumar - Name in Indian History !!!

Uday Kumar's name became part of Indian history, when his dynamic design for the symbol for the Rupee was approved by the Finance Minister as India's official currency sign.
An overwhelmed Kumar, who first learnt about the ministry's decision from The Indian Express, said, "My symbol is an amalgamation of several ideas -- it signifies the Devnagri script, which is the only script in the world which hangs from top. The central line, cutting through the 'R', subtly standardises it with other world currencies like the $, £ and Euro. Its top and bottom line together form an equal to (=) sign, denoting our belief in equality and together it also gives an appearance of the tricolour.
I tried to balance Indianness and international mood in the symbol." In between a slew of media interviews, the post-graduate rued that he hadn't found enough time to even talk to his parents ever since the selection. "They live in Chennai and are waiting for me to call but I haven't been free for a moment since the news broke," he said.
The Industrial Design Centre is not the most popular department of IIT and offers Masters degrees only from Kanpur, Guwahati and Mumbai. In 2005, the faculty began its first PhD course in Mumbai. Kumar, the centre's first Phd student, took up an unusual thesis to work on -- Tamil typography.
"Being a Ta milian, I realised early in life that India's regional typography is almost non-existent. The seemingly trivial concept of typography has a great significance in the modern age where scripts, fonts are required to develop a language for computers, mobile phones, etc. This is why every written language needs a typography. I have just set out on a long journey to design Ta mil typography and hopefully, several others will follow," Kumar said, adding his aim is to give the country a well developed typography of all local languages.
This unusual ambition, however, has its difficulties.
"To start with, my mother wanted me to be a doctor and my father, an IAS officer. But my teachers encouraged me to choose a career in design. In 2001, I entered the Anna University school of Architecture & Planning where I saw a horde of choices. I picked graphic designing," he said.
Kumar, who also designs jewellery for his friends, said, "Now, my work seems pretty much clear to me. I have to develop typography as well as encourage newer people to research in the field." Soon, he will take another step in that direction when he joins IITGuwahati as an assistant professor of Visual Designs.

"MADRASAPATTINAM" - a film worth to be watched !!

"MADRASAPATTINAM"

Hi,
I seen the film "MADRASPATTINAM" film with Karthik(Kutty) in Devi Theatre on July 15, 2010. The film is an excellent one and its a worthy to be watched.

Cast:
Arya
Emi Jackson
Nasser
Haneefa
and Others....
Music by GV Prakash
Directed by Vijay

The film gives the clear picture how the Madras was in 1940s... A painful and worthful effort taken by the team. Performance wise Emi Jackson stands first...(Plz,.,,, Trisha, 9thara and othes try to learn from her a lot....) Arya has given a splendid performance in his career. Haneefa's character is an excellent one.. hereafter he will be not seen in the films is a real loss... The sets made for the film is astonishanble and worthy.... Music by GV is an advantage to the film... Though the film resembles some Titanic scenes, it cant be said as big minus (as some of the tamil films are fully remade from English, especially films made by Gautham Vasudev Menon {who is proclaimed as Best Director too in the stupid media of Tamil Industry})
When they show river cooum where boating was done and quote as "It is Madraspattinam's Thames..." everyone shocks and blinked How the Cooum was and how it is now??? The love scenes b/w Arya and Emi Jackson has picturised very well... Tram in Madras, Central Railway Station, Mount Road, Spencer Plaza in olden days are picturised very well in the film...
To my point: The film is an excellent one and must be watched in theatres......
Those who love good cinema, surely they will love this film....

I can rate 8/10.

RUPEE JOINS ELITE CLUB !!

Even though not fully convertible, the Indian rupee will soon have a distinct identity. With a blend of the Devanagari ‘Ra' and Roman ‘R' as its unique symbol, the Indian currency will be joining the elite club of the US dollar, the European euro, the British pound sterling and the Japanese yen to mark its presence in the global arena.
Designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D. Udaya Kumar, the symbol was approved by the Union Cabinet on Thursday to distinguish the currency of the over $ 1-trillion economy from the rest, such as the rupee or the rupiah of Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Indonesia.
Briefing the media on the Cabinet decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said: “It's a big statement on the Indian currency".

The symbol would lend a distinctive character and identity to the currency and further highlight the strength and global face of the Indian economy.”
Unlike the pound sterling among the four currencies with distinct identities, the Indian currency symbol will not be printed or embossed on paper notes or coins.

Mr. Kumar's winning entry was chosen from 3,000 designs received for the currency symbol competition. He will get an award of Rs. 2.5 lakh from the Finance Ministry. The jury, headed by an RBI Deputy Governor, had sent five short-listed entries for the Cabinet's approval.

Seen "RAAVANAN" with KRISHNA !!!

I seen the Tamil film RAAVANAN in Sathyam Cinemas on July 07, 2010 with Krishna alias Madankumar, one of the person to whom am close now-a-days. (thanX da buddy for ur affection on me....)
The film directed by Maniratnam is based on the epic Ramayana. The film has Vikram, Prithviraj, Prabhu, Karthik, Vaiyapuri, Munna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyamani, and many others.
The film s excellent to me. The character played by the lead actors viz Vikram and Aish are remarkable and surprise. What a body language does Vikram has... Congrats Vikram... Wonderful performance (Plz...Tamil heros.... see this film and try to learn how body lang should be for an actor for a charcter..., Vijay and Ajith please see the film for more number of times). In the same ways, Aish has done her commendable performance in her career so far... When she got frightened, pleasing, loving, etc... her eyes speaks a lot... Though she have lended her own voice, the dubbed voice of Rohini had synchronised well for her. The camera works by Santhosh Sivan and Manikandan have no words to praise...
Is all the places in this film are in India?? Amazing Mani Sir !! After seeing this atleast our directors should avoid other countries shooting(Plz note Gautham Menon Sir, leave ur USA and search in India)
The next to mention is Suhashini Maniratnam for her short and also powerful dialogues. Her dialogues are excellent in terms of anger delicvered by Vikram, love with romance delivered by Aish. Last but not least is AR for giving wonderful score. Dubbing was done by Aish (Rohini), Munna (Prasana) and the guy who acts as Priyamin's lover (Azghamperumal). Some directors like Azghamperumal (the one who will take the photo of vikram, prabhu, aish and others) and Saravan Subbiah(Prithvi doubts one police officer and beats him) are also seen in the film.
ThanX to Mani team for giving a visual treat. Though there are several things like a typical Mani touches are missing in this is quite true....

"+" points of Raavanan:
# Fully shot in India.
# Excellent acting by all the actors.
# Beautiful Cinematography.
# Excellent lyrics.
# Superb Sets.

My top 5 persons in screen:
# Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Wonderful performance; that too in climax her exprressions are superb..)
# Vikram
# Vaiyapuri
# Prithviraj
# Munna
(Priyamani same as in Paruthiveeran, Karthik its boring char; Prabhu good; but hope these two actors have been wasted in this film)

My top 5 persons behind the scrren:
# Maniratnam
# Sathoshsivan / Manikandan
# AR Rahman / Vairamuthu / Playback singers
# Art Director Samir Chanda / Choreogrpahers (Shobana, Brindha)
# Suhashini Maniratnam

I have to watch the film once more.... I enjoyed the movie... After a long gap Mani film... I dont know when he s going to give his next project (rumours says Aamirkhan will be in Mani film...)
But I wonder why critics comes for this film when most of the films come sunder SUN TV/KALAIGNAR TV banner are not even to be said as film (eg:Kuruvi, Sura, Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai, Adhavan, Masilamni, Padikathavan, the list goes on and will be going on...) As none has courage to oppose those TV banner. S Tamil audience expect Double meaning jokes, Heroines half dress dance, Heros unimaginable fights, etc....(I dont thik so?) Those who blames this film means,
(*) They dont like to see nice film, only masala movies
(*) Or they would have confined to true Raamayana story
(*) Or they should not understand the concept / charateristaion / scenes

"WILL BE UPDATED MORE LATER"

==============================================================

AN EXCELLENT MOVIE !!!! WORTH TO BE WATCHED !!!! (My Rate: 8/10)

BHARAT BANDH

Bharat bandh hits normal life

Normal life was disrupted in several parts of India during the ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by a combined Opposition on July 05, 2010 in protest against fuel price hike with the greatest impact felt in NDA and Left-ruled states and Maharashtra. Sporadic incidents of violence in which buses and trains were targeted and clashes with police who baton charged the protestors were reported during the day-long nation-wide strike. Several top NDA leaders including BJP president Nitin Gadkari, his colleagues Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and JD(U) Chief Sharad Yadav courted arrest while leading protest rallies in Delhi and Lucknow. CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat and CPI’s top brass — A.B. Bardhan and D.Raja —also courted arrest during the bandh in a show of strength by the opposition trying to make common cause on the price rise issue to corner the Congress.

Mr. Jaitley and CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat claimed the bandh was an "unprecedented success". "This protest has been widely supported by the average common man because he is really the target of the government’s policies," Mr. Jaitley said. Scores of flights were grounded in commercial airline hubs such as Mumbai and Kolkata while protesters attacked buses and trains, blocked roads with burning tyres and organised sit-down protests on key road intersections and inter-city railway links. Several trains were also forcibly stopped.
Schools, colleges and business establishments remained closed as groups of protestors hit streets trying to enforce the 12-hour bandh in some cities. Life was thrown out of gear in NDA-ruled Bihar, Gujarat, Orissa, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttrakhand and Himachal Pradesh while it was a shutdown in Left-ruled West Bengal and Kerala. There was also a disruption of road and rail traffic. Several IT firms closed shop in Bangalore as a precautionary measure.
But the exception was Tamil Nadu, which do not participate in any National events as like before. Even the Congress ruling states like Maharashtra, Delhi too witnessed bandh... But TN, as usual STAYED AWAY FROM THE PROTEST!!! {reasons: No powerful opposition parties; Ruling govt is the best SPOON for Congress}
BHARAT BANDH COST APPROX Rs.2000Cr

The bandh called by the opposition parties on July 05, 2010 to protest against the fuel hike was termed as "Bharat Badh". Early estimates suggest the bandh has cost India more than a thousand crores.
State Wise loss:
Bihar: 50 cr
Uttar Pradesh: 250-350 cr + 150 cr
Gujarat: 500 cr
West Bengal: 500 cr
Kerala: 50 cr
These are the only early estimates by FICCI and CII.

Retrospective of Kamal Haasan films opens

The actor says his best innings in films will come over the next 10 years

Stating that he was not interested in resting on his laurels, actor Kamal Haasan on Friday said his best innings in films would come over the next 10 years.
Speaking at the inauguration of a three-day retrospective of his films at the Siri Fort Auditorium here, Mr. Haasan said: “I am not going to dwell on what has been done, but rather focus on what is to be done. Fortunately I came into the film world early… My parents told me to choose any profession. My father believed in me; he was my guru. The word guru sounds strange and even anachronistic these days. But without his backing, I would not have been where I am today.”

Referring to himself, the actor said a differently-abled child was loved more than other children. “I am a high school drop-out, but the rest of my family is well-educated. My mother and brothers showered me with so much love.”

Thanking the United Progressive Alliance government for organising a retrospective, he said such an event required a lot of planning. “I could have waited, as there are so many talented people who deserve this more than me.”

Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni said: “A retrospective gives people an opportunity to view works of art on a vast spectrum. It is a visual treat for movie buffs. It is important to view classics, as they make a tremendous impact on society. We have cinematic diversity in our country. Our brand entity is not only because of Bollywood, but also because of the creative genius of all languages.”

Deep impact

Stating that the retrospective showcased Mr. Haasan's sensitive side, the Minister said the actor fell under a special category, as his cinema broke barriers of language and region. The decision to show a retrospective of his films was not an off-the-cuff decision. Some of his characters had left a deep impact on us. “This is an acknowledgement of your contribution for the past 50 years. He made his debut in Kalathur Kannamma on August 12, 1959. He has been honoured with several awards. In fact, he may be the most awarded person in the country.”
The retrospective has been organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals.
