Why critcise P.A. Sangma?

There is a motivated criticism in some sections of media of P.A. Sangma’s decision to contest the Presidential election. The argument is that the numbers are not on his side, hence he should not contest. This suggestion makes a mockery of the democratic principle of contest. In an election, only one candidate can be successful. But people do contest to make their point of view known.
When Lakshmi Saigal contested against Adbul Kalam, the media never reacted this way. Why criticise Mr. Sangma now?
In fact, Mr. Sangma is the first person to announce that he'll contest the Presidential Election...
The Congress argument that Mr.Pranab is a good leader itself a big joke..(just a number of years as MPs, heading too many GoMs alone does not makes a good Statesmanship)

When Mr. Sangma called for the debate on the range of issues (including economy) with Mr.Pranab, the Congress shrugs off saying President does not manage the economy is just a joke as Mr. Pranab is just a nominee (as of now he is the Finance Minister of India)
There are some Corporate lobbying in elevating Mr. Pranab to Raisana Hills (but media not focused on this)
