Chennai: 9th best cosmopolitan city in the world

Chennai has been named the 9th best city in the list of 2015's top 10 cosmopolitan cities in the world. According to the list by Lonely Planet, (an international travel guide across the world) the Chennai city's Dravidian temples to explore, institutes that are dedicated to the study of Indian classical dance and its second largest movie industry and a beach packed with residents at all hours of the day and night makes it one of the best cities to visit.

The media company also said that with the opening of the Chennai Metro Rail, it has been expected to become the spotlight and shine more brightly.
Among its recommendations are "statue-covered Dravidian temples, fascinating museums, British-era fortifications and churches, a 3km-long beach, and India's second-largest movie industry, Kollywood."tnnLonely Planet called Chennai "the most overlooked of India's megacities".
M K Ajith Kumar, who runs Asia-Pacific Tours, said, "Chennai contains an eclectic mix of old charm and modernity. The bylanes of Triplicane differ vastly from the streets of Mylapore. Then there is the new IT corridor and the shopping malls. Each place in the city has something different to offer. It is welcome news that Chennai is in spotlight."
