The former Union Minister, Mr. Anbumani Ramadoss (PMK), has adopted Mottankurichi panchayat in Dharmapuri district under Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. (This panchayt comes under Nathampedu, native place of Subramani who fell prey to the bullets of the police during the agitation seeking separate reservation for the Most Backward Classes in Tamil Nadu. Twenty-one persons were killed in the police firing. The PMK has erected a memorial at Nathampedu for Subramani.)
DMK Rajya Sabha MP, Ms. Kanimozhi adopted Sri Venkateswarapuram village in Tuticorin. She visited the village and promised basic infrastructure. Kanimozhi said priority would be accorded for improving sanitation, drinking water supply, desilting of water bodies and woman empowerment. She said, efforts would be made to bring solar power to this remote village.
In Tamil Nadu, only Kanimozhi and Anbumani have adopted villages under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana scheme so far. MPs are expected to use the 5 crore MPLAD fund for the development of villages.

The blueprint of the scheme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, allows Members of Parliament to identify and develop one village from their constituency as a model village by 2016, and two more by 2019.
