Chennai building collapse: Jaya appoints commission to probe

State Government of Tamil Nadu on 3 July 2014 constituted a one-man commission headed by Justice (retd.) R Raghupathy to inquire into the 11-storey building collapse of Chennai. In the building collapse that happened in June 2014 about 61 lives were lost. The inquiry commission will look out for the reasons of collapse and will also suggest preventive measures that should be taken up during construction of such huge buildings.

About the Incident: The 11-storey building collapsed in Moulivakkam suburb of Chennai on 29 June 2014 that has claimed about 61 lives. After the accident, five people including promoters and engineers of the building have been arrested and charged with violations of approved structural plans.
