2011: How bright were the stars

A combo picture shows leading stars of the tinseltown. (clockwise from top left). Actors Dhanush, Mahesh Babu, Shah Rukh Khan and a still from Malayalam film "China Town" starring Jayaram, Mohanlal and Dileep.
2011 was a low year for Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan fans as the top stars didn't have any releases. The Super Star is currently busy with— "Kochadaiyan" and "Raana". Kamal Haasan is concentrating on his fourth directorial venture "Vishwaroopam", which is said to be a spy thriller on the lines of the "Mission Impossible" series.
"Mankatha", actor Ajith Kumar's 50th movie in which Trisha played his love interest was a runaway hit. His 'negative role' that too in the 50th film was much talked.
Arguably it was Dhanush’s best year so far. The versatile actor got the national award for his performance in "Aadukalam". Then “Kolaveri” happened and rest is history.
Tamil cinema's science fiction experiment "7aum Arivu" had its slice of history too. The film had Suriya and Shruti Hassan in the lead roles. Produced by Udhayanidhi Stalin, the film was directed by A.R. Murugadoss. But the film does not had anything as expected from A.R. Murgadoss.
A still from the movie "Deiva Thirumagal." Vikram and Anushka played lead roles. Baby Sarah's pivotal role in the movie was widely appreciated by critics. The film was directed by Vijay.
Bollywood's biggest success "Bodyguard", featured Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. The film was Malayalam director Siddique's debut Hindi venture.
Shah Rukh Khan lighted up the fag end of 2011 with "Don 2".
Bollywood gave yet another superhero flick "Ra One" starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
Ajay Devgn made a comeback of sorts with the remake of Tamil hit "Singham", in which he played the role of a macho cop.
